The iPhone 11 series comprising of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max was recently announced on Sep 11, a year after the release of its iPhones XS, XS Max and XR predecessors.

milieu conducted two surveys pre and post-announcement with 994 and 966 respondents respectively in Singapore to find out consumer attitudes towards the new iPhone series.

Excitement for the iPhone 11 series was modest before its announcement, with 27% of Singaporeans indicating that they were either excited or very excited for the release.

The post-announcement survey was launched on the day of the announcement, and 80% of 1,214 Singaporeans indicated that they have read or heard news about it. Subsequent questions reflect only the opinions of 966 respondents who were aware about the announcement.

Prior to the announcement, intention to purchase from the iPhone 11 series was modest, with 19% of the population indicating they were likely or very likely to buy. Post-announcement saw no difference in purchase intent with those likely to purchase making up 19% of Singaporeans.

There were, however, some differences in purchase intent of current iPhone users. Pre-announcement, 31% of current iPhone users were likely or very likely to purchase from the iPhone 11 series. However, there was a slight drop to 28% after the announcement.

The top voted features that respondents anticipated are the new camera features (56%), longer battery life (53%) and the more durable body (29%). Despite drawing skepticism, the new camera features absent in older iPhone models like the ultra-wide angle lens and widely-buzzed about triple-camera system proved to be popular among respondents.

With falling iPhone sales, will Apple manage to revive sales with the latest iPhone 11 series? 78% of respondents think favourably of iPhones XS, XS Max and XR, while the iPhone 11 series received a slightly lower 74% of votes. While this may hint at a continuous slump for Apple, more remains to be seen as sales begin on Sep 20 in Singapore.
