How Southeast Asians use emojis at work

Singapore Chinese newspaper featured the results of our 'Emoji and Work' study of N=6000 employed respondents across Southeast Asia (N=1000 respondents each from Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia).


During this time of remote work, emojis can play an important role in conveying positive emotions online to build rapport with colleagues and other people at work. Emojis are more often used to express positive emotions such as happiness (62%), friendliness (62%) and humour (52%). Sometimes, they can be used in replacement of formalities such as acknowledging and communicating tasks, although less common among Thais and Indonesians.
